According to the creators of this statue, it was inspired by the legend of Lord Garuda becoming the mount of Lord Vishnu. The story in the Puranas goes like this; Lord Garuda's mother was kept as a prisoner by the mother of Nagas. To release His mother, Lord Garuda set out to bring Amrit, the Holy Nectar. Lord Vishnu agreed to help Him get the Holy Nectar and in return, Lord Garuda agreed to be His ride. The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue is an iconic monument immortalizing this Purana story.
Located inside Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park in Ungasan, Badung, on the island of Bali, this statue is attracting lakhs of tourists from across the globe.
