Grand Bassin, also called Ganga Talao, is a lake located in an isolated area of the savanna, at the heart of Mauritius. Located along the Grand Bassin, it consists of a temple dedicated to Shiva and other gods, such as Hanuman and Lakshmi. At the heart of the Shivaratri, many local pilgrims walk barefoot to the lake from their homes. The region looks very lush with small monkeys that jump from tree to tree. You can even feel a sort of spiritual energy here. The trail that takes you to the Grand Bassin is fairly impressive: it passes through the heart of Mauritius and off the beaten path.
