Aazhimala Lord Shiva Statue, also known as Gangadhareshwara statue is the tallest Lord Shiva statue in Kerala, located inside the temple premises at Aazhimala Siva Temple near Poovar, Trivandrum. The 58 ft tall structure with Lord Shiva's hair flowing in the wind and holding Goddess Ganga invokes a magnificent grandeur and a sense of sacredness.
There is a Dhyana Mandapam in a cave-like chamber spanning 3,500 sq ft beneath the rock where the sculpture is located. You can find many other sculptures related to the tales of Lord Shiva here. The history of the Azhimala temple also is carved inside the chamber.
The majestic statue of Lord Shiva in the background of the beach and cliff views around gives breathtaking views for nature lovers and devotees. The statue is a very detailed and beautiful 3D structure constructed by Devadathan, a native of Azhimala. It took him 6 years to finish this extremely intricate sculpture of Lord Gangadhareshwar.
