World’s Tallest Lord Murugan Statue in Salem, India

The non-descript Puthiragoundampalayam in Attur taluk of Salem district, Tamil Nadu, India, has shot to fame and is now etched on the world map as the home of the tallest Lord Murugan idol. Lord Muruga, who is the youngest son of Goddess Parvathi and Shiva, is considered a Tamil Kadavul or Tamil God and is highly regarded by devotees young and old. The idol built in the Salem district is 146 feet and beats the 140-foot idol in Batu caves, Malaysia, and is consecrated at the Muthumalai Murugan Thirukovil. The consecration happened on April 6, 2022, with a Kumbabisheham performed in the presence of many devotees from nearby places. During the consecration, a helicopter was used to shower flower petals.
